From local family business to an established international presence

BEWI started out as a family business in 1980 on the Norwegian island of Frøya, and has transformed into the BEWI Group in 2014 with the merger with StyroChem and the acquisition of the packaging activities of SCA Packaging. Major investments were made in 2016 in an extrusion facility in Porvoo, Finland, after which the group expanded thanks to the acquisition of a Finnish XPS manufacturer and several Swedish packaging producers.

The group was further expanded in 2018, when the BEWI Group acquired the Dutch Synbra Holding and grew by an additional eight companies. In 2019, growth continued to Denmark and Belgium with the purchase of two recycling facilities, and the Saint-Gobain EPS facilities in France. In 2020, two more recycling companies were set up in Portugal and Denmark, and the group expanded further through acquisitions in the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and the United Kingdom.

Over the years, BEWI Group has grown into an established European presence. The exchange of experience between existing and new subsidiaries has resulted in successful competitiveness. Together we lead the change towards a circular economy.

BEWI ASA has also been a listed company on the Oslo Stock Exchange since 2020.
